The Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece (TEIWEST) is a university for applied sciences that offers 19 undergraduate and 6 postgraduate programmes to more than 19.000 students. Its vision is to become a regional innovator as it is located in 6 different cities within the Region of Western Greece.
TEIWEST intends to connect research to entrepreneurship and has embedded relevant actions to its portfolio:
It operates a Technology Transfer Office which aims among others at: promoting research results to industry, identifying funding schemes to support start-ups, facilitating innovation transformation into private services offerings. The office is responsible to arrange TEIWEST participation in regional entrepreneurial events such as start-up competitions, forums and network sessions as well as pan-European initiatives (SEC2U, SEW17).
Moreover, TEIWEST is always looking for new challenges to boost entrepreneurial spirit to its students and also be part of the start-up ecosystem, by:
Being a member of the organizing committee of Patras Innovation Quest; an annual national fair for innovation, R&D and entrepreneurship with more than 80 participants from research teams to SMEs
Being a member of the Alliance for Entrepreneurship and Development, led by the Region of Western Greece, on the occasion of the award “European Entrepreneurial Region 2017”. TEIWEST professors have joined the Regional Council for Research and Innovation.
By organizing multilateral events for start-ups involving the local government, industry, academia and citizens (Startup Europe comes to Universities, Startup Europe Week).
To implement its goals, TEIWEST has established official cooperation agreements with key stakeholders such as Patras Science Park and the Federation of Industries and SMEs of Peloponnese & Western Greece.
TEIWEST encourages its students to take part in business-type activities, from joining research teams under payroll and becoming apprentices to taking part in international competitions (eg. Google Online Marketing Challenge) or volunteering in Start-up open events.
All premises of TEIWEST offer fully equipped meeting rooms and co-working spaces for young people to exchange ideas or work on pilot projects; its conference center though, located in Patras, is available for open events, workshops and presentations (eg. 20th Pan-Hellenic Conference on Informatics (PCI) or Career Days).
TEIWEST offers R&D services to companies or public bodies for Greece and abroad in the fields of informatics, aquaculture, agriculture, social work and marketing. There are also research labs that offer training for entrepreneurs such as the Entrepreneurship and Digital Innovation Lab and eBusiness Lab; TEIWEST is a member of EURASHE and regularly meets transnational project teams for Study Visits.
